It was announced today that Universal Studios Beijing would be closed until further notice in compliance with Covid prevention measures. It’s not clear how long Universal will be shut, though, with their official notice just saying it will be temporarily shut from today onwards.

You can see the full official notice translated below:

“Universal Studios Beijing Resort, Universal CityWalk Beijing, The Universal Studios Grand Hotel, and NUO Resort are temporarily closed today as the resort implements epidemic prevention and control requirements. We will continue to assess the impact on operations and try to resume operations as soon as possible. For the latest operation arrangement, please pay attention to the official App, Ali mini program and WeChat mini program 北京环球度假村. We will post a notice when these venues get the OK to resume operations. We will provide refunds or rescheduling for tourists who have already booked their tickets. For these services, please contact the channel through which you booked your tickets. At the same time, we will continue to carry out in-depth cleaning and disinfection, nucleic acid testing and other related work on epidemic prevention and control. Thank you.”

Along with Universal Studios closing today, Courtyard No. 4 in Sanlitun -- where popular restaurants including Home Plate BBQ, QMex, The Local, and others are located -- has also been closed so that Covid testing could be carried out. We went to the courtyard to find out more, but the bao'ans stationed outside told the Beijinger it was unclear how long Courtyard No.4 would be closed for. They told us that tests were currently being carried out and that if there were no cases found, then it would reopen to the public.

As such, all restaurants within Courtyard No.4, have had to temporarily shut their operations and, as the whole courtyard is shut, are also unable to offer waimai. When we returned in the afternoon, we found the complex still cordoned off, with the bao'ans telling us Courtyard No. 4 would probably reopen tomorrow, although they quickly addded that this isn't guaranteed. With Halloween just around the corner and many of these restaurants having planned Halloween events we hope that the courtyard will be back open soon.

We’ve also heard that Chaoyang Joy City has been closed for testing and a look on the Dianping pages for restaurants located there shows that they are currently closed for waimai, appearing to confirm that it’s currently shut. Another rumor is that the Four Seasons hotel has been shut for testing as well, however as of press time we’ve been unable to confirm this.
