Happy Chinese New Year!

Seeing as Spring Festival is the biggest traditional Chinese festival of the year, it’s a prime time to get cultured on the holiday – and China in general, for that matter.

If you’re keen on doing just that over the coming week, here are some ideas, from walks and talks to more untraditional activities, to keep the culturally curious satiated.


Beijing Postcard CNY Activities

Along with a few historical walks, Beijing Postcards will also be hosting a special Spring Festival scavenger hunt in the hutongs, as well as a brand new nighttime walk through the Temple of Heaven, which the emperor would visit every winter solstice to offer a sacrifice to the gods.

Cultural Keys Spring Festival Presentation Series

Cultural Keys has been hosting cultural talks on the Spring Festival throughout the month of January, with two more talks scheduled: a talk on the days of Spring Festival on Jan 19 (tomorrow), and another on Chinese festivals to look forward to in 2023 on Jan 26.

Talks are happening every Thursday from 7-9pm via Zoom. Registration is RMB 50 per person. You can scan the QR code in the poster to sign up.


Hutong Walking Tour and Calligraphy Class

Perfect for families staying in Beijing over the holiday, Beijing Experience will be hosting a special CNY activity series this Sunday. Following a one hour hutong walking tour, the calligraphy class will focus on Chinese New Year greetings as well as how to write the most common holiday-themed Chinese characters.

The CNY Special Hutong Walking Tour and Calligraphy Class take place on Jan 22 from 2-5pm, and will start outside Dongsi Subway Station, Exit C. Cost is RMB 299 per family with children. Scan the QR code in the poster to register.
