29 Arrested in Connection With Mayday Ticket Scalping Incident
Local police have said they’ve arrested and dealt with 29 scalpers involved in the recent Mayday ticket scalping incident, according to a report from Beijing Daily.
The report continues, that Beijing police are saying they will continue to crack down on ticket scalping and illegal resale of tickets in accordance with the law and a recent push from multiple cultural and market authorities to deal with the issue.
Efforts to rectify scalping are to be carried out from April to June of this year and will include supervision of performance sites, going after scalpers on the ground, and monitoring and restricting the illegal resale of tickets for major performances on online trading platforms.

This recent crackdown by Beijing authorities comes after over 300,000 tickets for a series of concerts to be put on by Mandopop band Mayday sold out within five seconds of going on sale.
The push for stricter management of scalping is happening alongside a crackdown on “illegal performances”, with authorities in Beijing and other Chinese cities shutting down performances at venues that do not carry proper licensing to host shows, or, by extension, have licenses for performers.
