Beijing Enhances Bus Lane Regulations for Commuter and School Buses
Starting Jun 1, Beijing will implement enhanced measures to optimize bus lanes, improving overall efficiency and safety, according to Beijing Youth Daily. These adjustments will permit government-approved commuter buses and school buses to utilize bus lanes in compliance with existing regulations.
Commuter buses, defined as those with a seating capacity of 20 or more, and approved by Beijing's transportation authority, will be granted access to dedicated bus lanes during specified times and on designated routes. Special school buses that adhere to the "School Bus Safety Management Regulations" and display the appropriate signage will also be allowed to use bus lanes while transporting students during predetermined times and on specific routes.
Beijing traffic authorities advise that when using bus lanes, both commuter buses and school buses must remain within the designated lane and only utilize adjacent motor lanes for overtaking other vehicles. After passing, buses must promptly return to their original lane while exercising caution to avoid conflicts with other buses in the bus lane. Furthermore, it is strictly prohibited for unit commuter buses and special school buses to use bus lanes outside of the approved times and routes.
