Beijing’s Best Vegetarian and Vegan-Friendly Western Restaurants
Nowadays, there are more and more restaurants across Beijing offering vegetarian and vegan offerings due to the recent rise in plant-based meat and growing awareness of the environmental impact of eating meat on a mass scale.
This is great news for those vegetarians and vegans among you or for those perhaps wishing to cut down on their meat consumption. Here we’ve put together a list of what we think are some of Beijing’s best vegetarian and vegan friendly western restaurants.
For those interested in veggie Chinese restaurants, don’t worry! We’ll be following this list up with a look at the best vegetarian and vegan Chinese restaurants later in the week.
The Veggie Table
First up is The Veggie Table, which has been a staple in Beijing's vegetarian dining scene for over ten years. Located on Wudaoying Hutong, they serve up a range of burgers, pasta, pizza, salad and more. One of our top recommendations is the Mediterranean Burger (RMB 98) which comes with a plethora of sides: sweet potato fries, salad, tortilla chips, pickled carrots and potato salad. Other dishes worth trying are the Falafel Sandwich (RMB 88) and the Spaghetti with Veggie Meat Sauce (RMB 78). They also have some rather interesting vegan milk options with a Vegan Milk Tea (RMB 46) available and for Harry Potter fans a Vegan Butter Beer (RMB 48).

Q Mex Taqueria
Q Mex Taqueria always had a decent range of vegetarian options on their menu like their Sour Cream Mushroom Tacos (RMB 60), Red Bean Burritos (RMB 65-68) or Vegetarian Fajitas (RMB 80), but a few years back they decided to introduce a whole new vegan menu as well.
On this vegan menu, there are three different kinds of vegan quesadilla: Spicy Chorizo (RMB 72), Red Chili Shredded Chicken (RMB 68) and Avocado (RMB 65) which all come filled with vegan paprika cream cheese, avocado slices, vegan chipotle sour cream and fresh tomato salsa. They also have three different taco options: Vegan Spicy Chorizo Tacos (RMB 75), Vegan Guajillo Chicken Tacos (RMB 68) and Vegan Fried Chicken Tacos (RMB 70).
Last up we have the Yucatan Chicken & Kale Salad (RMB 65) that features shredded vegan chicken marinated in coconut milk, lemon juice and garlic served on fresh kale, roasted vegetables and pickled radish with an orange agave vinaigrette. Now, that’s a pretty impressive selection but there is even more good news! You can enjoy all vegan items for 50 percent off on Mondays from 5pm!

Gung Ho!
New Zealand Pizzeria Gung Ho! is a great restaurant for those with dietary requirements offering vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other options. Their vegan options are particularly impressive and they actually make their own vegan cheese in house. Starting with the pizza, they’ve got five different vegan pizzas on the menu: Black Truffle (RMB 129), “Pepperoni” (RMB 99), BBQ “Chicken” (RMB 99), The Ubergene (RMB 99) and for those who are fans of durian the Aroma Durian (RMB 109). Along with pizza they have a banging vegan burger called the Grilled Tricken Burger (RMB 48), a range of salads, tons of snacks and even Vegan Apple Crumble (RMB 38).

Arrow Factory
Arrow Factory has always been a pioneer when it comes to vegetarian and vegan food in Beijing, crafting creative dishes to delight the veggie community. One of their most impressive has to be the Vegan Breakfast (RMB 75) with two herby omni pork slices, baked beans, mushrooms, sautéed potatoes, grilled tomato, avocado toast and scrambled tofu (please note it’s only available on weekends). They also have a DIY breakfast where you can mix and match any veggie or vegan items of your choosing to create your ideal brunch.
Another great option is the Vegan Donor Kebab (RMB 75) which sees a homemade naan bread stuffed with TVP(peanut) fried with cumin, shredded veg, minted almond yoghurt, roasted red pepper and garlic sauce. They also have four vegan burgers: Vegan Cheese Burger (RMB 68), Vegan Double Cheese Burger (RMB 95), El Vegan Ranch Hand (RMB 85) and Southern Deep-Fried Style Vegan Burger (RMB 78), two vegan pizzas: Vegan Margherita (70 RMB) and Veggie Pesto Pizza (80 RMB) and a few other vegan dishes including a Vegan Sticky Toffee Pudding (RMB 58).

Moka Bros
As you might expect from an eatery that focuses on creative, healthy food, Moka Bros has a pretty decent selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. They’re probably most famous for their salads and power bowls that pack in a huge variety of ingredients into one dish, just take their Buddha Bowl (RMB 86) for example which sees avocado, kimchi, roasted cauliflower, raisins, beetroot, pine nuts, radish and black rice all topped with lemon thyme dressing and garlic.
Another great thing is that a lot of their salads and bowls, such as the Mexican Bowl (RMB 69), can be made vegan by swapping out the chicken for tofu etc. Also with four branches in the capital (Solana, Guomao, Shuangjing, and Xidan) there’s a good bet that there’s one near you!

Healthy and very reasonably priced eatery Peach has been expanding across the city and now has six branches in the capital. For those who love a burger the Dr Truffler (RMB 68) is not to be missed, it features a juicy plant-based meat patty topped with arugula, truffle and tomato with a side of fries. Along with the burger some other of our personal favorite offerings are the Impossi-Balls (RMB 55) that sees plant based meatballs with cherry tomatoes, green peas and fusilli, the Basil Eggplant Tomato Panini (RMB 55) and the Fala-La-La-La (RMB 52) a banging falafel salad served with a delicious yogurt cream sauce.

They have a variety of creative veggie and vegan options, like the Tenacious Tofu “Voodle Ramen” (RMB 58) which uses green and yellow zucchini voodles and carrot voodles as a base and mixes them with pan fried tofu, mixed mushrooms, tofu skin, spinach, toasted St George’s mushrooms and scallions, you can also swap out the voodles for buckwheat noodles if you want some carbs. Other dishes to try are the Tofu Grain Bowl (RMB 68) and the Mushroom Pizza (RMB 88) that’s got a cauliflower base.
