Enjoy Pizza, Stunning Views & More at Carpaccio

Katie Coy theBeijinger 2024-04-13

Situated right next to the Liangma River, you’d be hard pressed to find a restaurant with more scenic views of the “Seine of Beijing” than those at Italian restaurant Carpaccio. Since opening back in 2022, it’s become one of the river’s most popular spots and with its large terrace right on the water, delicious pizzas, authentic gelato and more offerings it’s easy to see why!

It's hard to beat Carpaccio's spacious terrace

Carpaccio serves up a range of Italian dishes but has a particular focus on pizzas, with an impressive 12 different pizzas on the menu. One of our personal favorites is the Truffle & Parma Ham Pizza (RMB 148) which sees one of their perfectly crispy thin crust bases topped with black truffle sauce, mozzarella, parmesan cheese, Parma ham, arugula and cherry tomatoes. The truffle sauce isn’t overpowering, as can often be the case, and is complimented well by the salty Parma ham which is balanced out by a touch of sweetness from the cherry tomatoes and the arugula adds a final layer of peppery spice.

The Truffle & Parma Ham Pizza is the perfect balance of flavors

A few other pizzas on the menu that we’d recommend are the classic Salami Pizza (RMB 128) which keeps things simple with salami, mozzarella and tomato sauce and the Pizza Capricciosa (RMB 148) featuring artichokes, black olives, baked ham, mushrooms, tomato sauce and mozzarella.

Along with pizzas, Carpaccio also has two different calzones – which are a bit of a rarity in Beijing – on the menu. There is the Prague Ham Calzone (RMB 118) that’s stuffed with Prague Ham, fresh tomato, basil, tomato sauce and mozzarella and the Calzone with Parma Ham (RMB 128) – pretty much the same as the Truffle & Parma Ham Pizza but in calzone form and minus the truffle sauce.

The Roast Chicken with Rosemary is the perfect meaty treat

For those who don’t fancy a pizza, they’ve got various meaty options like the Roast Chicken with Rosemary (RMB 138) served with grilled vine tomatoes, potato wedges, a spicy tomato sauce and grilled lemon to squeeze over the top if desired. Or there is the Grilled Pork Ribs (RMB 188) which come with fresh salad, potato wedges and pickled cucumber.

They’ve also got a handful of pasta dishes like Lasagna alla Bolognese (RMB 88) and Spaghetti alla Carbonara (RMB 72) as well as refreshing salads such as the Quinoa Avocado Salad (RMB 78) which combines quinoa, avocado, mixed vegetables, cherry tomatoes, almond flakes, and balsamic dressing.

For a more light option, the Quinoa Avocado Salad is a great choice

Moving away from savory offerings, Carpaccio also specialize in authentic Italian gelato, which you can enjoy at the restaurant or order to go from their designated gelato stand. The gelato is freshly made on-site and the available flavors can change daily due to demand but range from classics like Pistachio (RMB 52), Dark Chocolate (RMB 52) or Strawberry (RMB 36) to more exotic flavors such as Passion Fruit (RMB 36) or Jasmine Tea (RMB 36). Come summer, you’ll often see a queue forming of patrons eager to indulge in a cooling gelato cone while they take a stroll along the river.

In the drinks department, Carpaccio have a wide array of beers, wines, cocktails and coffees available. The latter of which are all made from imported Lavazza coffee beans using traditional Italian coffee brewing methods. On the alcoholic beverage front, they’ve got a pretty extensive beer and cider fridge with bottles of brews from Chinese breweries like Taste Room, along with foreign breweries such as Goose Island or Hoegarden, plus a few rotating beers on tap.

Carpaccio has an impressive selection of wine, beer and cider

When it comes to wine, they have a selection of fine Italian red, white and sparkling wines, including classics like Chianti, and, of course, Prosecco. They’ve also got a great cocktail menu full of favorites such as Aperol Spritz (RMB 98), Godfather (RMB 98), Gin and Tonic (RMB 88) and a few signature concoctions such as a Lychee Martini (RMB 98) and Blueberry Mojito (RMB 98).

The bright orange decor is reminiscent of Aperol

Carpaccio’s spacious terrace area overlooking the river is undoubtedly its crown jewel, but the cozy interior space is also very charming. With bright orange and white decor, it exudes chic, Mediterranean vibes and carefully placed plants and flowers add a touch of freshness. Its glass front also allows patrons to take in beautiful views of the river even while sitting inside.

Just take a look at the stunning river views

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a casual brunch or lunch with friends while basking in the sunshine or want a romantic dinner set against the colorful light displays once evening hits, Carpaccio really has it all! With warmer weather finally gracing the capital, now really is the perfect time to visit this delightful Italian eatery.
