Going Beyond Food: #SCISDragonfit Challenge 3
The third #SCISDragonfit Challenge is here!
健康的身体,健康的心态。
Healthy body, healthy mind.
January Winner!
In my eyes, the first way to deal with failure is to address it head-on. Failure can easily tear people apart and ruin people's lives if they don't have a positive growth mindset when they fail...If you fail, and you don't accomplish your goal or target, at least you tried. But if you do accomplish your goal, you tried and succeeded. So what's worse?
Kaleb, Grade Seven SCIS Student
Congratulations Kaleb, our #SCISDragonfit winner for the month of January! Kaleb, a Seventh Grade student, wrote about how to deal with failure using questions from the book "Chasing Failure" by Ryan Leak. He discussed the benefits of pushing past the fear of failing and taking chances to accomplish your goals. Thank you, Kaleb, for encouraging others through your writing!
CHALLENGE #3: Going Beyond Food
For the month of February, we will be focusing on going beyond food. Our discussions will be surrounding food through the lens of our host culture, China.
Demonstrate: Showcase your Mandarin skills at a local wet market!
Share a photo: Where does your food come from? Is it locally produced or imported? Does it matter?
Respond in your native language: "你吃了吗 (nǐ chī le ma)?" What is the origin of this phrase? Why is this a greeting in China? Are there similar phrases elsewhere?
Record a video: Food stories - Connect to your host country context. Cook a host country dish & explain the story behind it.
How to Submit
We will be gathering submissions through Instagram, Facebook, and via WeChat PAFA groups. Post your submission to your Instagram or Facebook page using the hashtag #SCISDragonfit AND tag us at @scis.china.

In Phases 3 & 4 students will be encouraged to remain conscious of their food choices. They will not only analyze a text but also apply their learning to explore how traditional models of nutrition - across cultures - have changed over time. Synthesizing their vocabulary development, along with creative thinking skills is crucial to this unit. We look forward to sharing our learning with you!
