Abed Al Kadiri (b.1984)

Abed Al Kadiri (b.1984) examines the deprivation of freedom in society by analyzing contemporary issues of violence, cultural heritage, migration, and belonging. He has been particularly looking into the destruction of Iraq’s historic monuments, the vast human tragedy behind the deceptive calm of the Mediterranean Sea through different phases of his paintings and drawings.

Tamaris Borrelly’s work revolves around the living world, its metamorphoses, its fragility, and its durability. Landscape and dreaming are at the center of Borrelly’s work. She questions the relationships between species and the biological links through her search for the fusion of matter. Like the scientist seeking to contribute to universal knowledge, she seeks to create a space opening onto another world.

Camille Cottier(1990

Camille Cottier (b.1990, Paris) graduated from the Beaux-Arts d’Angers in 2013. She lives and works in Paris. Her recent practice moves from figuration to a more abstract form, redefining herself through painting in a representation that is both human and de-formed. Full of melancholy, together or alone, her works are monstrous and delicate at the same time. With a closed glance, these characters remain the reassuring support of each evolving painting.

Hugo Deverchère explores how science, technology, and their new modes of representation shape our eyes, our knowledge, our consciousness, and the perception of our close and distant environment.

“La Isla de las Siete Ciudades” explores the Iberian biotopes that might have been at the origin of the story of the mythical Seven Cities of Gold, ghost islands whose precise location varies considerably across centuries. “Strange worlds are drawn from our own, they are neither real nor fake, and Deverchere's landscapes tell us these stories. ”

Marie de Villepin 1986

Marie de Villepin (b.1986, Washington DC) grew up in the United States and India. In 2005 she settled in New York and later in Los Angeles, where she developed various music projects before devoting herself entirely to painting. Her work deeply resonating with her time, oscillates between figuration and abstraction.

Tess Dumon’s work evolves on different mediums that include drawing, sculpture, animation, and installations. Her practice is related to her personal experience and childhood memories. The recurring mysterious young man refers to her autistic brother. The artist often captures moments of peace and grace in the vicissitudes of life. The disproportionate size of the boy's hands is a metaphor for the wings of an angel.

Charles Hascoët shares his daily life, thoughts, and emotions through his intuitive paintings. The artist weaves his personal experiences into intriguing puzzles that guide the viewers on a journey between the tangible and the imaginary. In the paintings portraying the octopuses, the mimicry and camouflage ability of this magical creature are matched by the rhythmic colours of the picture.

Children with disturbing faces, embryos with fully developed limbs, ancestor spirits locked up in bodies with imprecise forms—the creatures summoned by Izumi Kato are as fascinating as they are enigmatic.

Born in 1969 in Shimane, Japan, Izumi Kato graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Musashino University in 1992. He now lives and works in Tokyo. Since the 2000s, Kato has been attracting attention through his exhibitions in Japan and around the world. In 2007, he was invited to the 52nd international exhibition of the Venice Biennale, curated by Robert Storr.

Having an asserted interest in the techniques and materials used in industrial iconography, Yanis Khannoussi gradually developed his painting techniques predominated by gestures and colors on molded resin, liberating himself from the two-dimensional pictorial creations on canvas. Later the artist has integrated the pneumatic gun into his practice, which imitates the finishing criteria of the bodywork of industry, and de-materializes the gestures and any other “imprint” of the artist.

Through accentuating the contemplative experience of form and color, the artist attempts to create analogies for abstract concepts hard to materialize, such as the horizon, the refraction of light, etc.

Born in 1961, Hubert Le Gall is a French designer and sculptor who creates poetic and functional furniture. He plays on shapes, light and colours by combining unusual ideas and working with various materials such as wood, glass, resin or ceramics. Bronze remains his favourite material.

Leonard Martin's work deals with major themes of art and literature and makes use of various techniques, various languages of image, and representation in space. His taste for orchestrating the history of art and popular folklore developed during his career at Fresnoy – Studio National and at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, and furthered during his residency at the Villa Medici in Rome.

His work is exhibited in particular at the Biennale de Lyon, at the Biennale de Gwangju (Korea), at the Abbaye de Fontevraud, awarded several prizes such as that of the ADAGP for digital art and video, the Dauphine prize and the Emerige Revelations Prize.

Matisse Mesnil (b.1989, Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy) lives and works in Paris. His work takes the form of research: first attached to a questioning of the Albertian paradigm of painting, which describes the latter as a window on the world, Matisse Mesnil undertook to go beyond the work to focus on the framework. By focusing on what stands out from the work, Matisse Mesnil has therefore embarked on a phase of technical and methodological experimentation specific to his new favorite material, metal. Between craftsmanship and industry, this one supposes an adjustment of the gesture, the temporality, and the tools.

Born in 1968, Eric PILLOT is devoted to studying the relationship between humans, our surroundings, and nature through his unique perspective of photography. Pillot's engineer background adds a unique sense of mathematical and scientific aesthetics to his works. He prefers to use "straight photography" to show the subject as it looks, but at the same time to bring you elsewhere, poetic and pictorial.

Pillot's well-recognized series include IN SITU (since 2010), HORIZONS (since 2012), IN SITU USA (since 2010), and PAROIS (since 2016).

六角 彩子 (b.1982)

Ayako ROKKAKU |
Untitled |

Acrylic on canvas

Ayako Rokkaku (b.1982, Chiba, Japan) lives between Berlin, Porto, and Amsterdam. Rokkaku creates her paintings in an intuitive, performative act in which she applies the acrylic paint with her bare hands, transferring the movement of her body onto the canvas. The artist’s visual language oscillates between intangible abstract formations and figurative elements. It is clearly inspired by the style of kawaii culture and as rich and limitless as a child’s vivid imagination.

Plaster, concrete, pigment and wood

Using natural pastels, wood, plaster, and concrete as his primary materials, Ugo Schildge's unique approach blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture, canvas and medium, control and freedom, while giving the works an unparalleled texture and fluidity.

Schildge contrasts the raw materials of construction sites — concrete, plaster, and wood — with generally delicate, fragile, ephemeral, or incandescent subjects. This same concrete, the accomplice of modern urbanism that hinders nature, is used to create a flower, a bird, or a tree.

2019

Drawing inspiration from lacquer, its characteristics, and its tradition, Weng Jijun provides an alternative for us to re-examine our connection with the world in a way that bridges its different dimensions.

In recent years, Weng Jijun has begun to focus more on the human desire to explore the unknown, using his works to reflect the connections between the macro and micro worlds beyond the prism of science. His mastery of lacquer art has enabled him to transform the traditional 'patterns' and 'motifs' into a search for the origins of life and a depiction of cosmic forms.
