线虫的生命长度受组蛋白的甲基化程度所影响。本研究发现缺乏 H3K4me3 甲基转移酶会延长线虫的寿命,同时会促使脂肪(特别是一种单非饱和脂肪酸)在线虫身体中的累积。
这些单非饱和脂肪酸的累积是缺乏 H3K4me3 甲基转移酶的线虫寿命变长的必要条件。单纯的喂食单非饱和脂肪酸也可以延长寿命。
由于脂肪代谢是保守的,这一发现对于哺乳动物也可能适用。
