21 Photos From North Korea's Pyongyang Marathon
By Ned Kelly
More than 1,000 foreigners took part in the largest ever Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang on Sunday. The event started and finished at the Rungrado May Day Stadium, with a capacity of 150,000, the largest in the world.
Most of the race takes part on the streets, bridges and tunnels of Pyongyang. In a country where visitors are only permitted as part of strictly controlled tour groups, with government sanctioned guides, it is a rare chance for tourists to cross the city on foot and relatively free, as well as interact with everyday North Koreans.
