Aug 12: Guitar Wolf
Vice China’s music arm Noisey presents the Japanese punk veterans, who mix heavy distortion with classic 50s style to create their distinct brand of ‘jet rock’n’roll.’ Formed in 1987, they were signed to influential indie label Matador in the 1990s and continue to pack livehouses around the world. Homegrown surf-rockers the Psyders open.

Aug 12: Limbic Man
The Douban affiliated D-Force Records celebrate their two latest albums with this double album release party. Hometown heroes Duck Fight Goose joins Dalian’s DOC (formerly noise-rockers Doc Talk Shock) in a truly audio-visual experience with videos created specifically for the new songs.

Aug 13: Daily Vinyl with Soulspeak and Ttechmak
The recurring vinyl fair features a stunning amount of records for sale and is extra notable for being the Shanghai release party for the excellent collaborative album pairing Shanghai-based trumpeter Toby Mak (pictured above) and Beijing-based producer Soulspeak.

Aug 13-14: Echo Music Festival
Jessie J, DJ Shadow and Jolin Tsai headline this two-day festival that showcases pop (Stefanie Sun, Li Yuchun), Mainland indie (Queen Sea Big Shark, Omnipotent Youth Society) and electronic sounds (Yves V, Shanghai Restoration Project, Howie Lee).

Aug 14: Of Montreal
Celebrating  their 20th anniversary, Kevin Barnes’ shape-shifting indie act are  coming to China for the first time just in time for the release of their  new disc, Innocence Blooms. Partially inspired by contemporary  electronic artists like Jack-U and Arca, the dancetastic disc has been  described as their most light-hearted in years. We spoke to Barnes who  promises a new video and stage show with plenty of the group’s customary  theatrics thrown into the mix.
