Top 5 Nightlife Events in Shanghai This Week

Sep 1-5: MTA Shanghai
There’s a big electronic music festival going down at Beijing’s Sky Desert, and a trio of its international headliners will travel south to rock MAO Livehouse. On Sep 1, chart-topping electronic singer-songwriter-rapper Example is bringing his full band down. The next night, rising Norwegian producer Alan Walker (pictured above) will be joined by a special guest spinning melodic electro-house. Veteran live drum and bass band Rudimental will be joined by trumpeter Mark Crown for an extra soulful show on Sep 5. Three-day passes available for RMB500.

Sep 2: Harvey Sutherland
The Melbourne producer has been tearing up Australia’s underground with an intoxicating lo-fi boogie sound. He’s bringing his acclaimed improvised live show to China for the first time for the latest in the YETI dis:kos’ series with support from Allan Marshall, Laura Ingalls, Mike Discosnot and Frau.

Sep 3: Nu Mark
As a member of Jurassic 5, this Los Angeles DJ has amassed a major following in the underground hip hop community for his innovative cuts and live showmanship. He’s remixed Nas and has stretched out to experiment with other genres as a solo artist, including his famed live performances using only children’s music toys.

Sep 3: Zimmer

Arkham welcomes the young DJ and producer whose been tearing up the new disco scene since his debut single ‘Crusin’ dropped five years ago. With fans like Dimitri from Paris, Zimmer has only added to the buzz thanks to standout releases like April’s Coming of Age EP.

Sep 7: Barong Label Night

Founded two years ago by the Diplo approved genre-defying Dutch group Yellow Claw, the Barong Family has been on a signing spree, including inking a deal with Shanghai producer Chace. This label showcase brings both acts to Arkham along with other affiliated artists Cesqeaux, Moksi and Mike Cervello, with an assist from SHFT approved hometown heroes Dexter King and Tsunano.
