Taco Bell 2.0 Opening in Shanghai, Giving Away 100 Meals

Ring a ding ding - what's that? It's the Taco Bell!

Back in March, we reported that Mexican-themed American fast food chain was planning on opening a new Shanghai branch by the end of the year. We can now happily confirm this to be true.

The new branch is currently under construction at a site just outside Lujiazui Metro Station. At the moment the restaurant is screened by billboards, displaying nothing but a logo and a QR code to scan.

There was no indication that there was any major construction still being done, which makes us think that the big reveal may be close at hand (we hope). That's contacted Taco Bell parent company Yum! Brands for an official opening date, but they declined to give us any further info.

In the meantime, Taco Bell is hosting a contest on their official WeChat account (ID: tacobellchina). They're asking you to take a picture with their mascot — which will soon be placed outside the restaurant — and submit it to their WeChat account by November 20. By November 30, they'll choose 100 lucky winners, who will get to try a classic taco set in the restaurant on December 10. Follow their account for further submission details (Chinese only for now).

This isn't Taco Bell's first foray into Shanghai. They opened a flagship store in the city in 2003, but it was short lived and closed in 2008.
It's been a long 8 years since and, ¡Dios mío!, we're dying for a cheesy gordita crunch.

Stay tuned to That's for the latest developments on Taco Bell's grand re-opening.
