Sex-Themed Fried Chicken Chain has Shanghai Clucking
By Lauren Hogan
A Shanghai fried chicken chain has been taking some fowl measures to draw in more foot traffic and it's not going over well with the city's mother hens.
The name of the classy joint is 'Call A Chick', which literally means: 'Calling a hooker'.
And no, this isn't some lost-in-translation Chinglish...
Dishes on the menu include names in Chinese which mean 'a virgin chick', 'having sex with her' and 'a sex partner of a chick'. The promotion slogan is 'satisfying all your expectation for a chick' and a takeaway food card reads 'the secret of a man who has 10 times of a sex a night'.
So there's that.
According to the Shanghai Daily, the restaurant was first reported after a woman in Chengdu complained to media that the restaurant embarrased her because her eight-year-old son kept asking her the meaning of 'call a chick'.
The Shanghai-based restaurant has since begun replacing promotion slogans and menus and has issued an apology saying it had created the promotion content hoping to attract those between the ages of 18-28 - their main consumer group.
But, clearly to their surprise, chicks just aren't digging it.
