Shanghai Trio Arrested for Livestreaming IKEA Break-In

Well, this was inevitable.

Both livestreaming and IKEA were in the headlines (again) this weekend after a trio were arrested for hiding out in one of the Swedish furniture brand's Shanghai stores and livestreaming their adventures.

The unnamed group arrived in the store late on Friday night after a man announced his plans on Weibo to invite a beautiful woman to hide in IKEA with him for one night. (Boy, IKEA really seems to be quite the hot spot for romance these days, doesn't it?)

The man and a woman hid in a closet and livestreamed themselves hanging out in the darkness.

A store security guard discovered the duo and called the cops. When the police arrived, they discovered a third person with the couple.

According to local news reports, the three wanted to "experience the childhood feeling of hiding in a closet and meant no harm." Right.

The livestreamer publicly apologized on his Weibo account yesterday.

With the explosion in popularity of livestreaming apps, China has begun cracking down on streaming platforms.

But on a positive note, sleeping on IKEA furniture is still permitted.
