PHOTOS: Great Shanghai Scooter Crackdown of 2017 Begins
By Rachel Deason
“The scootering! It’s happening!” wail hapless expats forced to finally register their scooters.
Starting today, March 1, all unlicensed scooter drivers face fines of RMB50 and all unregistered scooters risk confiscation by traffic police. The fine will increase to RMB250 on March 25.
While traffic crackdowns rarely seem to stick, this one is already gaining traction. New photos show scooters being hauled away en masse and officers writing up fines.
Avoid the misfortune of those in the above pictures by registering your scooter ASAP.
