An American man died yesterday morning after collapsing on Line 2 of the Shanghai Metro during rush hour.

The 64-year-old man passed out on the train at around 8.30am. Passengers immediately moved him to the Jiangsu Road Station platform and called an ambulance via the 120 medical hotline, the Shanghai Metro posted on its Weibo account.

On the platform, two Chinese passengers — including a nurse from Putuo District Central Hospital — attempted to resuscitate him. Station staff were also on standby to help out.

Shanghai Daily reports that the ambulance arrived within 15 minutes and took the man to Huadong Hospital, where he was declared dead roughly 30 minutes later.

The cause of death remains unknown.

In an unrelated incident, a man caused panic on a Line 10 train at around the same time yesterday morning, which led to "hundreds" of passengers dropping their belongings and running.

More updates on this developing story as we receive them.
