Drunk Man Steals ¥20,000 Worth of Racing Pigeons, Eats Them

A man in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, is crying fowl after a sauced up bird burglar stole 11 pricey racing pigeons before boiling and eating most of them on June 25, according to an iFeng.com report.

The thief, a man surnamed Zi, struck around 2pm, bagging the birds before leaving on a three-wheeled bike loaded with waste cardboard and bearing his phone number. Apparently, Zi is a scrap trader.

“Comrade officers! My home has been robbed and my pigeons are gone,” the iFeng.com report quotes bird owner surnamed Yuan as saying after rushing to the police station. 

“They are not normal pigeons, they are racing pigeons!” 

Police pulled closed-circuit video and apprehended Zi by calling the phone number listed on his cart to "sell him scraps."  A search of his home turned up three living pigeons, each valued at at least RMB3,000. 

Zi was detained by police after admitting to the caper.
