Company Sells Lifetime Baijiu Supply for ¥11,111 on Singles Day
By Bridget O'Donnell
We've heard of some crazy Singles Day deals, but this is ridiculous.
As part of a special promotion for China's "Double 11 Day" online shopping extravaganza, a baijiu retailer last week was offering a lifetime supply of the national spirit for a one time fee RMB11,000.
The first 33 customers to buy the deal would receive 12 bottles of Jiangxiaobai Baijiu each month for the rest of their lives. If the customer happened to pass away within five years of purchasing the deal, then the bottles would be transferred to a designated family member.
The normal selling price for a lifetime supply of the spirit was listed as RMB99,999, and the company's standard bottles usually sell for RMB196 a pop.
But there was a catch: the deal would be nullified if the company went bankrupt.
However it looks like it was all apparently too good to be true (read: probably another 11/11 marketing stunt); the promotion was no longer available on Jiangxiaobai's Tmall store on November 11.
Damn, looks like we'll have to get an endless supply of the potent drink somewhere else.
