'We Try It' is a regular series where we try the latest off-beat food and beverage offerings.

We admit that it looks like shit. But give McDonald's latest seasonal soft-serve cone a chance: after all, it's the closest thing to Nutella you'll find outside Carrefour.

While not technically named after everyone's favorite chocolatey spread, the new flavor claims to incorporate both Belgian chocolate and Turkish hazelnuts – ergo, it's basically Nutella ice cream.

For the sake of journalistic integrity, we bought a cone to try. The flavor turned out to be less rich than Nutella but still satisfying – essentially McDonald's regular soft-serve with some extra chocolate-hazelnut goodness.

At RMB5 a cone (RMB7.5 for two), that's more than good enough for us.

One downside: the kind-of Nutella flavor will only be available this winter. Come March 27, it'll disappear, most likely replaced by something weird like Pepto Bismol-pink 'cherry blossom.'

So savor it in the freezing cold while you can!
