Fan Bingbing Ranked Last in Celeb Social Responsibility Ratings

This past Sunday, Beijing Normal University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released a research paper ranking 100 Chinese television and film stars on their commitment to social responsibility, Sixth Tone reports. The list places Dying to Survive actor Xu Zheng in the No.1 position, while controversy-engulfed actress Fan Bingbing sits in last place.

Overall, only nine of the 100 celebrities on the list, which includes legendary actor Jackie Chan in the 42nd spot, passed the social responsibility test.

While assessing the celebrities, researchers sourced media reports published over the past year and took three criteria into account: professional work, charitable work and integrity, according to Sixth Tone.

The project was headed by Communications Professor Zhang Hongzhong from Beijing Normal University. Zhang told Sixth Tone that the project is the first-ever to assess celebrities based on social responsibility.

Xu Zheng secured the top spot on the list due to his ‘strong role model’ qualities, a credential that was recently bolstered by his role in Dying to Survive, a film that portrays the difficulties faced by many cancer patients trying to secure affordably priced medicine. The oh-so-popular TFBoys came in second place, due to their ‘catchy tunes’ and philanthropy work, according to Sixth Tone.

The iconic Fan Bingbing, arguably China’s most notable celebrity, came in dead last. This may not come as a surprise to those of our readers that have followed the ongoing saga of Fan’s tax evasion controversy, which came to light earlier this year. Professor Zhang confirmed that while the actress has engaged in charitable acts, the scandal was damaging to her score.

Fan has dropped off the radar as of late, with her most recent Weibo update posted on June 2.
