Shanghai's Getting Rid of Its Old Taxis
By Bridget O'Donnell
Say goodbye to Shanghai's iconic sedan taxis, as they are set to completely phased out soon.
Shine reports that Qiangsheng Taxi, one of the city's largest cab operators, plans to take all its classic Volkswagen Santana sedans (pictured above) off the streets by the end of next month. The Santana vehicles currently used by Qiangsheng are no longer in production.
Qiangsheng's 1,7000 remaining Santanas will be replaced with an upgraded fleet of VW Tourans by the time the China International Import Expo rolls into town in early November. Shanghai's Transport Commission has been urging the city's taxi firms to make the switch to Tourans since 2015.
Hooray, Expo cabs for everyone!
