WATCH: Depressed Elephant Destroys 9 Vehicles in Yunnan

While some folks revel in their unattached status, others find being alone a rather sad way to live. A male elephant in China’s southwestern province of Yunnan clearly falls into the latter camp, as demonstrated by his nine-vehicle-destroying rampage on the morning of March 24, a marathon of destruction allegedly triggered because he couldn’t find a mate.

The story first appeared on Chinese broadcasts and social media and has since been picked up around the world, with BBC reporting that the elephant was “forced out of its herd” after failing to find a partner, which left the animal in a “bad mood.”

The incident occurred in the town of Meng’a, which is located in Yunnan’s Menghai county, according to a CCTV report.

A Weibo post by Future News states that the animal was led out of town after roughly 30 minutes by forestry officers who were aided by stall owners at a local farmers’ market.

Luckily, no one was injured as a result of the Asian elephant’s heartbreak.
