Video of 400 Chinese Students Dancing to Reggaeton Goes Viral
By Ryan Gandolfo
Daddy Yankee has some serious fans in Northwest China.
The Puerto Rican rapper’s hit song ‘Dura’ sent one school in Gansu province into a dancing frenzy, quickly becoming an online sensation worldwide.
According to China News, Zhang Guannan, the school’s physical education teacher, corralled over 400 students to participate in the ‘Dura’ dance challenge, which is a fun dance routine that has blown up on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok (also known as Douyin in China).
Daddy Yankee is well known for his passionate lyrics, which some may argue offer sensual vibes (others find his poetry downright raunchy). In one part of the song, the rapper sings, “Si fuera un delito eso de que estás hermosa te arresto en mi cama y te pongo las esposas,” which translates to “if it were a crime to be beautiful, I’d arrest you in my bed and put you in handcuffs.”

Daddy Yankee was sure to show these up-and-coming dancers some love, retweeting multiple videos of the school dance on Twitter. In February 2018, during the onset of the dance challenge, a pregnant woman was videotaped doing ‘the Dura’ hours before going into labor. Upon hearing the news, Daddy Yankee posted that a “#Dura baby was born!”
