Huawei Phone Raises Privacy Concerns with ‘Super Zoom' Function
By Matthew Bossons
The phenomenal zoom function of Huawei’s new P30 Pro is the toast of the internet, having received rave reviews from more than a few tech websites.
The Huawei P30 Pro boasts a Leica ‘quad camera system’ that includes a ‘super zoom lens’ and 40-megapixel sensor. According to Tom’s Guide, a tech review website, the camera’s “50x zoom combines a 5x optical zoom with artificial intelligence-driven digital magnification.”
The 'non-Pro' version of the Huawei P30 enjoys a 30x zoom feature, which is still quite impressive.

While unquestionably impressive, the smartphone’s ‘super zoom’ function has raised privacy concerns, with numerous tech pundits and netizens urging owners of the P30 Pro not to use the device as a tool to ‘spy on your neighbors.’
Upon the phone's release, one Weibo user wrote, "Huawei P30 is officially on sale. From today onwards, please make sure your window curtains are closed because if the people in the apartment across from you have this phone with 50x zoom, then they can see everything clearly!"
