1980年5月，挪威摄影师列夫·加布里埃尔森以新闻摄影记者的身份，在中国各地游历了17天。当时挪威《阶级斗争》日报受《人民日报》邀请，派出加布里埃尔森在内的四人代表团来访中国。代表团途径北京及东南沿海城市上海、杭州，再一路西行至乌鲁木齐、石河子、吐鲁番、高昌以及天山中的一个村庄。
加布里埃尔森以此作为契机独自行走，共拍摄了3000余张摄影作品。在2018至2019年期间，他重新回顾了这些摄于1980年的照片，并于此次展览呈现了大部分当年未公开发表的影像。
列夫·加布里埃尔森（1942年出生于挪威的最北端），20世纪60年代师从瑞典摄影师克里斯特·斯特伦霍姆（1918-2002）。他历任挪威广播公司电影摄影师、《阶级斗争》日报新闻摄影记者、挪威国家剧院及当地其他剧院的专属摄影师。同时，他也一直在进行个人艺术项目的创作。他的作品曾于各大博物馆与收藏机构展出，包括挪威国立艺术、建筑和设计博物馆以及挪威国家摄影博物馆。
The Norwegian photographer Leif Gabrielsen travelled in China for 17 days in May1980 as photojournalist. He was part of a 4-man delegation from the Norwegiannewspaper Klassekampen, invited to China by People’s Daily. Onthe east coast they visited Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou and in western Chinathey arrived at Urumqi, Shihezi, Turpan, Gaochang and a valley in the Tien Shanmountains.
Leif Gabrielsen used the opportunity to do a lot of photographic work, leaving thedelegation to walk along by himself. He shot more than 3000 exposures. In2018-19 he looked anew at the material from 1980 and composed this exhibitionmainly of images not used in the newspaper at the time.
Leif Gabrielsen (b. 1942 onthe northernmost part of Norway) was a student of the Swedish photographer Christer Strömholm (1918-2002) in the 1960s. He worked as a film photographerin The Norwegian Broadcasting Company, as photojournalist in the newspaper Class Struggle, as in-house photographer for theNational Theatre and other theatres in Norway. All the time he also has beenworking with his own art projects. He is represented in museums andcollections, ex. The National Museum of Art, Architecture, and Design, Norway,and The National Museum of Photography (Preus), Norway.
