Hangzhou Woman seeking ‘bedmate’ rents out half her mattress
As China's sharing economy soars, almost everything can be rented out, even half a bed.
A woman in Hangzhou successfully sublet half her twin bed to a female roommate for 650 yuan ($94) a month - half the rent of her apartment, Qianjiang Evening News reported Tuesday.
Xiao Ying (pseudonym), 25, said she found her 'bedmate' soon after posting her unusual ad on Xianyu, a flea market-type website.
"It's not like I can't cover the rent," Xiao told reporters. "Isn't it just better to make a new friend?" said Xiao.
Xiao's roommate, also 25, described the decision to share the twin bed as "simple.""I wanted to save money and be happy," she said.
Xiao said so far they've made good bedfellows. "She didn't even come to see the place before sealing the deal," said Xiao. "We celebrated together the day she moved in."
