1st personal affair residence permit for foreign student issued

Gai Shitong, a Zambian student at the Zhejiang University of Science and Technology yesterday became the first overseas student to receive the personal affair residence permit in Hangzhou since the city started to implement new policies in this regard on December 29, 2017.

According to Hangzhou's new policies, overseas students with diploma or graduation certificates from Chinese colleges can apply for residence permit for private affairs from two to five years, allowing them to start new business or have internship in the city.

"I'm so excited like the sunny weather today," said Gai with a big smile after he went through all the procedures at the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration Service Center.

After graduation from the marketing major at the university, Gai registered a foreign trade company at Cross-border Town in Xiacheng District in January.

Gai, 25, then registered his own children's clothing brand and sent 50 samples to Zambia on January 3. His samples received warm response. In addition, he also imported drums and wood sculptures from Africa to China.

"The new policies are really good, I can stay in Hangzhou to pursue my dreams," Gai added. "Hangzhou is a very friendly city for foreigners and there are a lot of opportunities here, it's a very attractive city in our eyes!"
