Flying Wedding Veils Are Now A Thing In China

I don’t know about you but the thought of having a veil on my wedding day makes me shudder.

Firstly, if it's over your face, there’s the possibility it’ll somehow suffocate you mid walk down the aisle. Secondly, it could fly off during the family photos and take down Aunt Beryl with some serious force in the wind. And, that’s not to mention it could get caught in your hair, stuck in your mouth, stuck on an innocent bystander's blazer button and rip. The list goes on.

However, never did we think that flying wedding veils not only might be a thing, but a full-blown trend in China.

In January, videos of flying veils began going vial on Chinese social media site Weibo in which soft lace and tulle veils are rigged up to ceiling conveyor belts via a set of runners, while the bride stands patiently at the end of a raised aisle.

Then, like an owl in the night, the veil swooshes along before being gracefully detached and placed on the bride’s crown.

Since then, videos of ghostly veils have been shared across the internet, much to our delight/confusion.

‘Wow I’m not having a wedding unless there’s a flying veil that drops on me from the sky as I’m walking down the aisle,’ wrote one person on Twitter after seeing the video.

Another joked: ‘We should improve it . . . what about white doves flying in with the veil and dropping it over the bride?’

Since the clip was shared on Facebook, it has been viewed more than five million times.
