A dedicated employee at a petrol station in east China has won praise for strictly enforcing the no-smoking rule. 

Surveillance footage shows the attendant dousing a driver in his car with a fire extinguisher after he refused to put out his cigarette at the gas station in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.  

The attendant, Qian Jiaqi, said he resorted to the dramatic measure after the man deified numerous requests to put out the smoke.

Amazing! Well done! That will teach the driver a lesson,' one comment read on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.

'Please do not take these warnings at gas stations as a joke,' one net user said.

'Good! Don't need to waste time arguing with such crooks. Just spray him!' another said. 

'Smoking is banned in the gas station (due to inflammable liquids around). It's common sense. I tried to stop him the moment I saw him lighting up a cigarette,' Qian told Qianjiang Evening News.

'But he had a horrible attitude. He refused to put it out,' he said.

Local police said the driver, surnamed Li, was given a three-day detention for putting the safety of the public at risk and for assaulting the petrol station worker.

The worker wasn't hurt in the incident, the report added.
