The Great Desert in Huailai
怀来天漠
Covering an area of 1300 mu (about 214 acres), the Great Desert lies at the foot of the Yan Mountains, the south side of Guanting Reservoir in Huailai County. In spite of the fact that the desert is called “the Great Desert”, it is actually just a stretch of dessert, about 120 football fields. Now, with the construction of windbreak and sand fixation, the Great Desert as a tourist attraction only covers an area of 200 mu (about 33 acres) .
天漠位于怀来县境内，这一片占地1300亩的天然沙漠，静静匍匐在官厅水库南侧燕山脚下。虽然它叫做“天漠”，实际上是一片很小的沙漠，相当于120个足球场大小。如今随着防风固沙工程的建设，天漠仅剩下约200亩作为景观之用。
It was said that the Great Desert, also known as “flying desert”, was formed by wind from Inner Mongolia. More miraculously, it was formed in one day. Such legend may sound incredible, but it adds a trace of mystery to the Great Dessert. Standing on the top of the desert, you can see the ruins of the Great Wall built in Yan State, one of the seven states in the Warring States period (475-221 BC) .
这片迷你的沙漠，还有个别称叫做“飞来的沙漠”，听说它来自内蒙境内，是风带来的，更神奇的说法是，它是在一天之内形成的。这种说法不可靠，但是却为天漠增添了神秘色彩。站在沙漠上，还能隐约看到战国时期(公元前475-221)的燕长城遗迹。
Due to its unique natural landscape, the Great Desert has become one of the ideal filming locations for desert scene. More than 300 movies and TV series have been shot here, such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Journey to the West, My Fair Princess, World granary, Moment in Peking, and The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate.
由于其独特魅力的自然风光，天漠已成为国内外影视剧选取西部风光的最佳外景地之一。《三国演义》、《西游记》、《还珠格格》、《天下粮仓》、《京华烟云》、《龙门飞甲》等300余部影视片先后在这里拍摄。
