南和县城北有个村叫“三官殿”，明朝万历年间，南方三位去北京赶考的学子，途中遭劫，身负重伤，住在一位老大娘家，整日以小米为生，伤势奇迹般痊愈，三人高举榜首，为感谢南和金米救命之恩，回来在这个村种了三颗柏树，修建了一座桥，桥拱上雕刻上谷穗。自此，这个小村由“大猪圈”更名为“三官殿”。至今还保留着“三柏一拱桥”

It is said that the name of Nanhe Golden Millet is relevant to Empress Wuzetian of the Tang Dynasty. According to the records, the famous prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, Songjing was bornand raised in Nanhe County, who served the royal court under Empress Wu’s reign at that time. One day, Songjing presented the millet of his hometown to Empress Wu as the tribute, and Empress Wu felt the millet was so surprisingly delicious that she even gave it the name “the Golden Millet” after the taste. Actually, the name Golden Millet was really a vivid metaphor to describe the glutinousness as well as the sweetness of Nanhe Millet. Therefore, the people of Nanhe County later named the most beautiful street of their hometown “Songjing Street” in order to honor the great contribution made by him to the local millet. In addition, Songjing Street was the only street named after the local people of Nanhe County.
“南和金米”熬十分钟左右就可香粘可口，清香宜人，滋肝养胃，补中益气，强身健体，社会上流传着“一般小米分着走，南和小米手拉手”的说法。2013年，“南和金米”被国家批准为“地理标志保护产品”。
It only takes 10 minutes to make Nanhe Golden Millet sweet, glutinous as well as tasty by cooking. Indeed, Nanhe Golden Millet can nourish the liver and stomach,tonify and benefit the vital energies as well as strengthen the human body. And the saying goes that “the ordinary millets are separate one by one after cooking, while Nanhe Golden Millets are so glutinous that they are adherent to each other like hand in hand”. And in 2013, Nanhe Golden Millet was authorized as one “Geographical Indication Product under protection”by the Chinese government.
