中山大学2019年新年贺词

光阴荏苒，岁月如梭，我们即将迎来崭新的2019年。在这辞旧迎新的美好时刻，我们谨代表学校向全体师生员工、离退休老同志、广大海内外校友和长期以来一直关心、支持中山大学事业发展的社会各界人士，致以新年诚挚的祝福！

2018年是我国全面贯彻落实党的十九大精神的开局之年，是决胜全面建成小康社会、实施“十三五”规划承上启下的关键一年，全国各族人民在以习近平同志为核心的党中央坚强领导下，面对复杂的国内外环境，不断夺取中国特色社会主义事业新胜利，取得举世瞩目的伟大成就。

2018年是我们倍感温暖、倍加振奋的一年。在教师节之际，党中央隆重召开新时代第一次全国教育大会，这是我国教育事业发展史上的里程碑，为我们做好新时代教育工作提供了根本遵循。在改革开放40周年、粤港澳大湾区建设全面推进的关键时刻，习近平总书记亲临广东视察并发表重要讲话，为广东发展把舵定向。中山大学作为广东的国家“双一流”建设高校，深感与党和国家的强劲脉搏同频共振，发展愈发昂扬有力。

这一年，我们始终坚持党对学校事业的全面领导，坚持马克思主义指导地位，坚持社会主义办学方向，落实立德树人根本任务，扎根中国大地办教育，持续深化综合改革，扎实推动学校各项事业发展，写好教育“奋进之笔”，努力交出“得意之作”。

这一年，我们始终坚持“德才兼备、领袖气质、家国情怀”的人才培养目标，构建五个融合为特征的卓越人才培养体系，深化人才培养内涵式发展，生源质量和人才培养质量都稳步上升。

这一年，我们始终坚持以“三个面向”为指导，继续推进“三大建设”，承担国家科研项目能力持续提升，国家自然科学基金立项数连续两年位居全国高校第二，国家社会科学基金项目和教育部人文社会科学项目总量连续两年位居全国第一。

这一年，我们有效推进重大科研平台建设，天琴中心、南海研究院、海洋综合科考实习船、国家超级计算广州中心、精准医学科学中心等平台建设进展喜人。

这一年，我们全面实施“人才倍增”计划，加大人才引进力度，“人才蓄水池”成效显著；深入推进综合改革，正式启动“院系办校”试点工作，不断激发院系办学积极性，提升大学内部治理能力。

这一年，学校召开秋季工作会议，全面总结了“十三五”以来学校实现快速发展的基本经验，明确提出中山大学的发展有了新定位、新格局、新观念，实现一次内涵发展的成功跨越，站在了历史新起点，进入了发展新时期！

2019年，我们伟大的祖国将迎来她70岁的生日。我们一定要紧紧抓住天时、地利、人和的大好时机，闻鸡起舞、日夜兼程，切实践行“为人民服务，为中国共产党治国理政服务，为巩固和发展中国特色社会主义制度服务，为改革开放和社会主义现代化建设服务”，扎根中国大地，建设一流大学，努力培养德智体美劳全面发展的社会主义建设者和接班人，助力广东实现“四个走在全国前列”宏伟目标，为粤港澳大湾区建设贡献人才支撑和创新力量，以优异的成绩为祖国70华诞献礼！

2019 New Year's Greetings from Sun Yat-sen University

Time flies and we will soon welcome 2019. At this moment of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new, we would like to extend our most sincere New Year’s greetings on behalf of the University to our students, current and retired faculty and staff, domestic and overseas alumni, and friends who have joined our endeavors and continue to support Sun Yat-sen University.

2018 has been the first year of fully implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, a crucial year for securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and a connecting link for implementing the 13th Five-Year Plan. Facing a complex environment both at home and abroad, the Chinese people of all ethnic groups have continuously won new victories in the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics and made remarkable achievements in development under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core. 

2018 has also been a warm and inspiring year for Sun Yat-sen University. On the Teachers’ Day, the CPC Central Committee held the National Education Conference, which marked a milestone in the development history of national education cause and provided fundamental principles for the education work in the new era. At the crucial moment of the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up and the comprehensive construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Guangdong and delivered important speeches, and pointed out the direction for Guangdong’s development. As a university of the national Double First-Class Initiative, Sun Yat-sen University is resonating with the Party and the country and pursing a stronger development.

In 2018, we have made continuous efforts to enhance the Party’s overall leadership over the university cause, uphold the guiding role of Marxism, adhere to the socialist orientation of education, foster virtue through education, build the university rooted in China, deepen comprehensive reform, promote the development of various causes of the University, strive to promote educational advancement, and attain outstanding achievements.

In 2018, we have continued to uphold the goal of “nurturing talents who have both ability and moral integrity and are both able to cultivate charisma and eager to serve the country”, construct an outstanding talent cultivation system with five integrations as its main characteristics, deepen the intensive development of talent cultivation, and improve the quality of both student enrollment and talent cultivation.

In 2018, we have adhered to the “three orientations”, promoted the “three big constructions”, and our ability to undertake national research projects has been increased continuously. The number of projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China has ranked second among universities nationwide for two consecutive years. The total number of projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China and projects funded by the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Program has ranked first nationwide for two consecutive years.

In 2018, we have effectively promoted the construction of major scientific research platforms including Tianqin Research Center for Gravitational Physics, South China Sea Institution, Comprehensive Marine Research Fieldwork Vessel, National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou, and Precision Medicine Science Center, and has made remarkable progress.

In 2018, we have comprehensively implemented the “talent doubling” plan, enhanced the introduction of outstanding talents and teams, and achieved remarkable results in building the talent pool. We have deepened comprehensive reform, launched the pilot work of “strengthening school and department construction to realize the University’s strategic goals”, boosted the enthusiasm of schools and departments, and improved internal governance of the University.

In 2018, the University held the Autumn Work Conference. We comprehensively summarized the basic experience of rapid development since the 13th Five Year Plan, and put forward that Sun Yat-sen University has formulated new position, new layout and new concept for its development, successfully achieved an intensive leap-forward in development, reached a new historical starting point, and entered a new era of development!

In 2019, our great motherland will mark her 70th birthday. We must grasp the excellent opportunity and make the best of every minute. We must firmly implement the fundamental task of “four services”: serving the people, serving the governance of the CPC, serving the consolidation and development of socialist system with Chinese characteristics, and serving the reform and opening-up and socialist modernization construction. We must build a world-class university rooted in China, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding with a hardworking spirit. We must assist Guangdong in realizing its grand goal of “walking in the front nationwide in four aspects”, and contribute talent support and innovation force to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With outstanding achievements, we will mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China!

He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, let us unite and forge ahead toward realizing our goal in the new era of “being rooted in China, accelerating our steps into the first tier of universities nationwide, and striving to enter the forefront of world-class universities”! Let us join hands and create a new glory of Sun Yat-sen University!

May the New Year bring health, happiness, and success to our faculty and staff, students, alumni, and friends!
