民数记简介
民数记描述神怎样带领以色列民从西乃山(出埃及记20-40;利未记)到摩押平原，预备他们进入迦南地。
探子中有人论到所窥探之地，向以色列人报恶信，说：“我们所窥探经过之地，是吞吃居民之地，我们在那里所看见的人民都身量高大。

1 耶和华晓谕摩西说：
The LORD said to Moses,
2 “你打发人去窥探我所赐给以色列人的迦南地，他们每支派中要打发一个人，都要作首领的。”
"Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders."
3 摩西就照耶和华的吩咐，从巴兰的旷野打发他们去，他们都是以色列人的族长。
So at the LORD'S command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.
4 他们的名字：属流便支派的，有撒刻的儿子沙母亚；
These are their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;
5 属西缅支派的，有何利的儿子沙法；
from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
6 属犹大支派的，有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒；
from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
7 属以萨迦支派的，有约色的儿子以迦；
from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
8 属以法莲支派的，有嫩的儿子何西阿；
from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;
9 属便雅悯支派的，有拉孚的儿子帕提；
from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
10 属西布伦支派的，有梭底的儿子迦叠；
from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;
11 约瑟的子孙属玛拿西支派的，有稣西的儿子迦底；
from the tribe of Manasseh (a tribe of Joseph), Gaddi son of Susi;
12 属但支派的，有基玛利的儿子亚米利；
from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;
13 属亚设支派的，有米迦勒的儿子西帖；
from the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;
14 属拿弗他利支派的，有缚西的儿子拿比；
from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;
15 属迦得支派的，有玛基的儿子臼利。
from the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Maki.
16 这就是摩西所打发窥探那地之人的名字。摩西就称嫩的儿子何西阿为约书亚。
These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)
17 摩西打发他们去窥探迦南地，说：“你们从南地上山地去，
When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, "Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.
18 看那地如何？其中所住的民是强是弱，是多是少，
See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.
19 所住之地是好是歹，所住之处是营盘是坚城。
What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?
20 又看那地土是肥美是瘠薄，其中有树木没有？你们要放开胆量，把那地的果子带些来。”那时正是葡萄初熟的时候。
How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)
21 他们上去窥探那地，从寻的旷野到利合，直到哈马口。
So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.
22 他们从南地上去，到了希伯仑，在那里有亚衲族人亚希幔、示筛、挞买。原来希伯仑城被建造比埃及的锁安城早七年。
They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 他们到了以实各谷，从那里砍了葡萄树的一枝，上头有一挂葡萄，两个人用杠抬着，又带了些石榴和无花果来。
When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.
24 因为以色列人从那里砍来的那挂葡萄，所以那地方叫作以实各谷。
That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.
25 过了四十天，他们窥探那地才回来。
At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.
26 到了巴兰旷野的加低斯，见摩西、亚伦并以色列的全会众，回报摩西、亚伦并全会众，又把那地的果子给他们看。
They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 又告诉摩西说：“我们到了你所打发我们去的那地，果然是流奶与蜜之地，这就是那地的果子。
They gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.
28 然而住那地的民强壮，城邑也坚固宽大，并且我们在那里看见了亚衲族的人。
But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.
29 亚玛力人住在南地；赫人、耶布斯人、亚摩利人住在山地；迦南人住在海边，并约旦河旁。”
The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan."
30 迦勒在摩西面前安抚百姓，说：“我们立刻上去得那地吧！我们足能得胜。”
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
31 但那些和他同去的人说：“我们不能上去攻击那民，因为他们比我们强壮。”
But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are."
32 探子中有人论到所窥探之地，向以色列人报恶信，说：“我们所窥探经过之地，是吞吃居民之地，我们在那里所看见的人民都身量高大。
And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.
33 我们在那里看见亚衲族人，就是伟人，他们是伟人的后裔。据我们看自己就如蚱蜢一样，据他们看我们也是如此。”
We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
