[Sat, 25 Nov] Maliandao Tea Tour
Sophisticated tea merchants with an entrepreneurial spirit have inhabited the streets of Beijing’s Maliandao neighborhood since the early 1990s. The area has developed into the largest tea wholesale market in northern China despite the fact that no tea is produced in the region. Teas sold in the market come from more than ten different producing areas; high-quality white, Oolong, black, green, and even hard-to-find yellow teas can be found at prices 2-3 times less than retail stores.
Join us for an informative tour of the Maliandao tea market to answer some of your questions about Chinese teas: how is tea classified and preserved? What are the different tea-making techniques and brewing methods? What is the difference between bagged and loose leaves? How do you taste for quality? What are the proper drinking seasons and health effects of different categories of tea? And what are the different utensils used for preparing Chinese tea?
The meeting location is NOT at our Hutong Courtyard but instead at Line 7 Subway station Wanzi, Exit D
