In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of China and the rest of the world, Southwest University offers the president scholarship to sponsor international students and scholars to undertake studies and research.

Scholarship Coverage

• Type I Scholarship covers registration and tuition fees (including experiment and internship expenses), comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living allowance (CNY1100 for Bachelor's degree students and visiting students; CNY1400 for Master's degree students and CNY1700 for Doctoral degree students).
  

• Type II Scholarship covers registration and tuition fees (including experiment and internship expenses) and comprehensive medical insurance.

Scholarship Duration & Annual Assessment

Generally, scholarship holders are eligible for the following scholarships according to their study duration: 4 years for Bachelor's degree students, 2-3 years for Master's degree students, 3 years for Doctoral degree students and 1 year for visiting students.

According to relevant regulations, every May there is a comprehensive assessment of the scholarship holder's performance during the previous academic year to determine whether the scholarship holder is qualified to continue receiving the scholarship.

Eligibility

• Non-Chinese citizen in good health.
  

• Education background and age limits.

—Applicants for Bachelor's degree studies must have graduated from senior high school and be under the age of 30.

—Applicants for Master's degree studies must have a Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

— Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have a Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

• Not sponsored by any other scholarships.

Application Procedures

A.   Mail-in Application

1. Download the Application Form for Southwest University President Scholarship and the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners at http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn, or collect them from the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University.

2. Complete the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and undergo a physical examination at a local public hospital. The record is valid for 6 months.

3. Prepare the other application documents requested and send the full application package to the International Students Admission Office of Southwest University.

B.    Online Application

1. Log onto the website of SWU’s online application at http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn and register.

2. Download the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners, complete it and take physical examination at a local public hospital.

3. Log onto the website and enter the information and upload the documents as requested.

4. Confirm all information and submit.

Recruitment Procedures

1. Southwest University will evaluate the application materials and post the enrollment list at http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn and notify the applicants by email.

2. Admitted applicants must deposit an application fee of CNY 500 to Southwest University’s bank account.

3. Admission Notice and Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 form) will be mailed to the admitted applicants by the end of June.

Application Documents

1. Application Form for Southwest University President Scholarship (in duplicate).
   

2. Photocopies of the highest diploma, graduation certificate or diploma certificate attained. University students or employed applicants should provide proof of studying or employment. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have notarized translations in Chinese or English attached in duplicate.

3. Transcripts of previous academic record. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English (in duplicate).

4. An 800 word study plan (Bachelor’s degree applicants) or research plan (Master’s and Doctoral degree applicants).

5. Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors. Recommendation letters should have the signatures of professors or associate professors (in duplicate, only for Master’s and Doctoral degree applicant).

6. Language proficiency certificates: Photocopy of HSK certificate or other certificates of Chinese proficiency or IELTS/net-based TOFEL certificate or other certificates of English proficiency (if any).

7. Published academic papers or other academic achievements (original or photocopy, if any).

8. Two photocopies of the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (the applicant should keep the original for future visa applications).

9. Two recent photos (white background, passport size). Please write the applicant’s name and major on the back of the photo.

10. Photocopy of the applicant’s passport.

Notes:

1.  For music or fine arts applicants, please submit two works via CD.

2. For English-taught program applicants, please complete all the requirements in English (application form, recommendation letter, study plan etc.).

The deadline will be decided on a changing basis, we advise to call us or consult our website regularly.

Accommodation Information

• Double-bed room at the international students’ dormitory (shared by two): CNY 5000/semester/person, CNY 9000/year/person.
  

• Single-bed room at the international students’ dormitory: CNY 7000/semester, CNY 12000/year.

Note: International College can assist students in renting rooms on or off campus.
