Program Introduction
Chinese Government Scholarship “High-level Postgraduate” Program supports outstanding young students from all over the world to study for postgraduate degrees in China. The program adopts the principle of "individual application, university recommendation, expert review, and merit-based admission" to select international students with excellent academic background, professional ability and future development potential.
SWUFE, as a qualified Chinese Government Scholarship institution, recommends candidates who meet the program requirements to the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The final admission result is subject to the expert review results announced by CSC.
Application Period
Now - February 26th, 2023
Applicants are encouraged to submit application as early as possible.
EligibilityBasic Requirements
Be non-Chinese citizens with valid passport in accordance with the Nationality Law of The People’s Republic of China, and meet the requirements set by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of The PRC and other relevant regulations; be in good health and get good grades.
Abide by the laws and regulations of China as well as regulations of SWUFE.
Applicants shall apply for the scholarship at SWUFE directly and independently.
Education Background
Be a bachelor's degree holder when applying for master's degree program;
Be a master's degree holder when applying for doctoral degree program;
Applicants who will graduate in 2023 shall obtain a national recognized corresponding diploma before enrollment. Otherwise, the admission qualification will be invalid.
Age Limit
Master's degree program: under the age of 35;
Doctoral degree program: under the age of 40.
Requirements of Language Proficiency
Chinese-taught program
Applicants shall pass HSK level 4 or above.
Applicants who hold valid HSK Level 4 certificate scored over 180 points can apply for the degree program with one-year Chinese language preparatory study. Students shall pass HSK Level 5 scored over 180 points before the end of the preparatory study. If not, the scholarship will be paused or terminated.
Applicants who hold valid HSK Level 5 certificate scored over 180 points can apply for direct entry into degree study.
Applicants who have used Chinese as the medium of instruction to obtain degree from a Chinese university are not required to provide HSK certificate after providing official certificate/letter issued by the university they attended.
English-taught program
Applicants whose native language is English, or can provide proof of studying in a 2-year or above degree program in which the medium of instruction is English, do not need to provide language certificate.
Applicants whose native language is not English are required to provide official certificate/report of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 95 and above) or pass online test organized by College of International Education, SWUFE.

Apply Online in SWUFE Application System
Submit online application at SWUFE International Students Service System (http://swufe.17gz.org), and pay application fee.
Application fee is 600 RMB. Please follow the instruction at the system for online payment. The applications without paying application fee will not be processed. Application fee is not refundable under any circumstance.
Receive Relevant Notices
SWUFE will review applicants' documents, organize online exam, online interview, etc., and send email notices and pre-admission letters to shortlisted applicants. Applicants shall to pay attention to their mailboxes and maintain open communication.
Apply Online in CSC System
After receiving Pre-admission Letter issued by SWUFE, the selected applicants who have passed university's review shall, within the specified time, submit online application at CSC System (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register);
Select "Type B" in "Program Category". The Agency Number of SWUFE is 10651.
Upload Documents
ID photo taken within 6 months;
First page of personal passport;
Notarized highest educational degree certificate;
If the applicant has not obtained the degree yet, they should provide an official letter that states this student will obtain the degree before August 25th, 2023. This letter should be issued by the applicant's current university.
Academic transcripts (from undergraduate program onwards);
Copies of academic records from the first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department.
Recommendation letters;
Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors with handwriting signature shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicants’ objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchanges between universities both in China and abroad (if any).
Study plan proposal;
It should be a minimum of 1000 characters or words.
Valid language certificate;
Physical Examination Record for Foreigner
The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without signature of the attending physician, or official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please select appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
Non-Criminal Record
Applicants shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application. If applicants could not get the record from the authority, then shall sign and upload the Commitment Letter of Non-Criminal Record instead.
Other certificates, awards, abstracts of published academic papers, etc. (if any)
Important Notes
All documents should be presented in Chinese or English. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, complete, authentic, and valid. Applicants are recommended to use professional device to scan the relevant documents.
If necessary, SWUFE will require applicants to submit additional documents.
