【艺·凯旋】艺术家 | 吴达新参展第二届安仁双年展

第二届安仁双年展于10月12日在安仁古镇开幕。本次展览由艺术史学家吕澎，四川美术美院教授何桂彦、荷兰著名策展人塞伯·泰德若（Siebe Tettero）作为联合策展人，遵照专业、学术、国际等原则搭建展览结构，制定展览的主题和架构，拟定参展的艺术家名单，选择参展的艺术作品，保证展览的学术性及影响力。本次展览有来自世界各地约60-80位优秀中外艺术家，涵盖了绘画、摄影、雕塑、装置、影像、文献、电影、以及建筑八大类型的作品展示。

The Second Anren Biennale opened on October 12th in Anren ancient town. This exhibition is co-curated by art historian Lv Peng, professor of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts He Guiyan, and the famous Dutch curator Siebe Tettero. Following the professional, academic and international principles, curators formulate the theme and structure, draw up the list of artists and choose the works of art to ensure the academic and influence of the exhibition. There are about 60-80 outstanding Chinese and foreign artists from all over the world and their projects cover eight types including painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, literature, film, and architecture.

本届安仁双年展的主题为‘共同的神话’，在探讨不同文明之间如何交流对话、化解冲突的同时，将美育权利作为城乡居民共有的权利和共同的神话，致力于提高大众的审美层级，体现艺术身在社会、关注社会、服务社会的属性和内涵。安仁在全球化与地域性相互交叉的语境中，以多层的历史变迁为基，为双年展提供了空间承载和文化积淀。

The theme of this year's Anren Biennale is 'Common Mythology'. While discussing how to communicate and resolve conflicts among different civilizations, the right to art education is shared by the urban and rural residents. It is committed to improving the aesthetics literacy of the public, and reflects the attributes and connotations of art in social existence, concern and service. In the context of globalization and cross region, Anren provides space and cultural accumulation for the Biennale based on multi-level historical changes.

艺·凯旋画廊代理艺术家吴达新此次携装置作品《药师如来》参展安仁双年展。上万个透明小药瓶构成了这个面目慈祥的宏伟佛头，在灯光的照射下，折射出如水晶般澄澈的光辉。

The installation work Pharmacist Buddha by artist Wu Daxin is exhibiting in Anren Biennale. Around ten-thousand of transparent medicine bottles form this kind of grand Buddha head, which reflects the crystal clear radiance under the illumination of the light.

佛陀具有疗愈众生从贪欲和愚昧等邪行中治愈的法力，但在这里，艺术家用空玻璃药瓶组成了一尊佛头。此前，吴达新读到这样的消息：有无良商家用水灌入空药瓶，冒充儿童用的注射剂投放到市场上。这折射出当代社会无限度的贪婪与恶。于是，这尊巨大的佛头成为一个庄严的警告，在它的安详与慈悲背后，是一条被僭越的界限。

Buddha is he who has the ability to cure men of evils such as greed and ignorance. But here the big bust is made up of empty medicine bottles, referring to a specific brutal case. Last year， Wu Daxin learned that some criminals had marketed bottles of vaccines for children which were full of water rather than pharmaceutical products. There is unlimited wickedness and greed in the contemporary world. Therefore, the large head of Buddha becomes a solemn warning; it appears serene and kindly, but it shows a limit has been reached.

吴达新的创作长期关注因经济快速增长而导致的中国传统文化的消亡。一方面，他承认进步确有价值，也是中国现今最强有力的逻辑。而另一方面，他忧心于古老价值的急剧衰落，后者是今天许多不稳定因素的来源，事物之间的和谐状态因此被打破。在吴达新的作品中，美学的价值仍需听从于伦理的召唤。他希望将艺术作为一种从进步的破坏性逻辑中恢复和谐的手段，暗合了本次双年展希望在不同的文明碰撞间寻找一种和谐共存的主题。

Wu Daxin has been dealing with issues related to the disappearance of traditional Chinese culture due to fast economic growth for years. On the one hand he recognises the value of progress, forcefully imposed by the current Chinese system. On the other hand he criticises the heinous loss of ancient values, cause of instability and decline of consonance among things. In Wu Daxin's works, the value of aesthetics still needs to be heard from the call of ethics. He hopes to use art as a means of restoring harmony from the destructive logic of progress, which coincides with the theme of this biennale that seeks to coexist harmoniously among different civilizations.

About the Artist

吴达新，1969年出生于中国福建泉州，1992年毕业于华侨大学外语系日语专业。同年留学日本，就读于日本国立琦玉大学教育学部研究生，师从山口静一教授专修东洋美术史，2001年移居美国，在纽约市立大学学习影像技术，2007年毕业。吴达新在作品图像的中西文化资源、符号的利用上，一个有趣的视觉呈现是移植与并置，并在迭加中悄悄地渗透、融解。以不同为文化中的符号象征的拼合，既是现实状态的一种，又是吴达新作品的一种话语方式。他直接对应和测度着现实变化，构成了中国当下生动而奇特而混杂的现实图景。

WuDaxin was born in 1969 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China. In 1992, he graduated with a bechalor’s degree in Japanese in Huaqiao University. In the same year, he studied in Japan, with professor Yamaguchi, specialized in Japanese art history in Saitama University. In 2001, Wu Daxin moved to the United States, studied video art technology in the City University in New York, and graduated in 2007. In Wu’s work, Eastern and Western cultural resources were grasped and skillfully applied, which turned out to be an interesting visual presentation through transplant and juxtaposition, and quietly penetratesand melts into each other in the process of superposition. The splicing of symbols in different cultures not only reflects the reality, but a way of discourse in Wu’s work. It directly corresponds and measures the changes of reality, which posing a vivid, strange and confounding image of contemporary China.

Triumph Gallery was founded in 2007 in the heart of 798 Art Zone, Beijing and forms strong relations with Asian collectors since over 10 years. The mission of Triumph Gallery is to work on the careers of artists, by enabling collaborations with museums and institutions and by supporting projects outside of the gallery walls.
