Last week, Sinokap provided the solution on how to manually decompress files. Now let's look at how to prevent Windows from automatically compressing your files.
There are three methods in total, and we will go into the first two in this article.
Click on Start and type in gpedit.msc and press Enter.
Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem > NTFS. Double click on Do not allow compression on all NTFS volumes. Change the status to Enabled and click OK.
Reboot your computer and you will be all set.

Method 2Making a registry change
Click on Start and type in regedit and press Enter.
Go to Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Policies. Find the value called NtfsDisableCompression and double click it.
Then change the value from 0 to 1 and click OK.
Reboot your computer and you will be all set.
