Tax ：

是税的总称

《柯林斯词典》对它的定义是：

Tax is an amount of money that you have to pay to the government so that it can pay for public services.

人们把 tax 付给政府，政府再用来做公共建设。

Duty：

a tax that you pay on things that you buy especially those that you bring into a country

购买商品支付的税被称为duty，通常指在国外购买带到国内的商品。

机场「免税商店」的英文是 duty-free shop。

Tariff：

特指政府对进口货物征收的税。注意：谈论「税率」的时候，更多用tariff，而谈论具体「税费」的时候，更多用 duty.

tariff 只能是可数名词
