策划「RETURN」群展的念头,缘起于我们在对一树ARBRE过往艺术实践进行总结时,不断反思其中的每一个决策是否符合我们的初衷。在即将迎来空间成立一周年的特殊节点上,Return之于我们是执着于将艺术 普及 和 推广 到我们所在的社区和城市中,让公众参与到对艺术的了解和欣赏当中。我们不免好奇:当他人脑海中关于Return的概念被 移植 到一树的展览空间中,它会与这个空间和社区发生怎样的化学反应?
当丢出这个问题来邀请大家解构这个词汇时,我们不只是为了寻求一个答案,更是希望与参与者一同就Return这个关键词出发,回顾自己过往的经历,并在其中找到一个立足点,来诠释或重塑自己对于这个词语的理解。事实上我们也假借着这次机会进行了一次实验 ——「白盒子」概念所代表的一系列展览呈现思路被暂时丢弃,取而代之的是将整个一树ARBRE空间划分为不同的展览区域,削弱所谓「规范展厅」的存在感,试图让艺术品主动地介入某个空间而非被动地置入。同时我们也希望借此次机会去探讨一树ARBRE作为独立艺术空间,与社区之间的关系。也正是基于这个思路,我们虚构了一个向大众进行方案和作品征集的「售楼处」(招募回顾)。参展者根据我们提供的的空间介绍,开始「幻想」他们与一树空间之间可能发生的故事,并「不可见」地完成了第一次和一树ARBRE之间的联动。我们的策展身份在此次展览中被 后置 ,在收到回应前,我们无法预知这个展览的面貌;在接收到创作者们的积极反馈后,我们对于这次群展的想象才不断被多元的思维与出发点所填补、充实。而最令我们兴奋的是,我们看见了许多非艺术从业者在此间的活跃,以及他们运用艺术手法对于Return的独特解读。与其说是策展者,我们的真正角色是 中继站 :创作者们带着他们的作品来到一树,而我们则尝试将这些对于Return的多元解读与我们所划分的不同展览区域进行对话与融合,营造出一个个具有细分主题的场域。此时,参展者真正地和一树ARBRE进行了对话,互相包容,协力构建出一个理想国度。所有这些创作者们虽然都以不同的艺术形式表达自己对于Return的感受与理解,但奇妙之处在于他们都有一个共同点,那就是 对于生命体的关注与讨论 。无论我们是否作出抵抗,生命都在不断地行进与流逝,丝毫不以人的意志为转移,而在行进的过程当中,不论我们是否做出Return的动作 —— 折返某地、重现场景、恢复原貌抑或是驻足原地 —— 不停变幻的生命体验都时刻影响着我们的心境。岁月与历练似乎让镜中的我们变了一个人,细想又仿若什么都没变,而最终解释权以及选择未来方向的决策权,只掌握在我们自己手中。The idea of curating the RETURN Group Exhibition originated from our continuous reflection on Arbre’s past artistic practices - whether each decision is in line with our original intention. Arbre Art Centre will soon celebrate its first anniversary; for us curators of Arbre Art Centre, the word “return” means that we should keep being dedicated to popularizing art in our communities and city, and to encouraging the public to participate in the understanding and appreciation of art.We cannot help wondering: when other people’s interpretations of “return” are transplanted into the exhibition space of Arbre, what chemical reaction will it trigger? When we invite everyone to interpret this word, we are hoping that the participants would review their past experiences and find a foothold to interpret or reshape their understanding of this word.In fact, we also conduct an experiment in this exhibition - the traditional representation form of “white box” is temporarily discarded and replaced by dividing the entire Arbre space into different exhibition areas, reducing the sense of “standard exhibition hall” and trying to let artworks actively intervene in a certain space, instead of passively being placed. We also hope to take this opportunity to explore the relationship between Arbre Art Centre as an independent art space and the community where Arbre is located in.Therefore, we started an artistic open call in November, trying to collect as many creative proposals and artworks from the public as possible. Our curatorial “function” was postponed in this exhibition - we cannot picture the whole look of this exhibition until we receive different responses. The diverse feedbacks from the art creators have enriched our imagination for this group exhibition. What excites us the most is that many art enthusiasts share their unique interpretations of “return”, instead of professional artists taking control of the whole exhibition.Although all these art creators express their feelings and understanding of “return” in different artistic forms, they all have one thing in common, that is, their constant attention and discussion on living entities. Whether we resist or not, life is constantly moving and passing away, and it does not subject to the will of human beings. In the process of moving forward, the ever-changing life experiences always affect our state of mind. Time and experience seem to have changed us, but sometimes we feel like nothing has changed. Nonetheless, only we own the right to interpret the word and to make every life decision for ourselves.
