On Oct. 20th, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Technology, a graduate from Wuhan University, donated RMB 99,999,999 yuan to supporting the construction of the science and technology building of his Alma Mater, and the signing ceremony was held in the headquarter of Kingsoft Technology Co., Ltd. in Beijing.
In addition to Lei Jun's attendance at the signing ceremony, Chen Dongsheng, chairman and CEO of Taikang Life Insurance, and Chen Yizhou, CEO of Renren also attended it.
Data shows that, Lei Jun was born in 1969 in Hubei province. In 1987, graduated from Mianyang middle school (now Hubei province Xiantao middle school). At the same year, Lei Jun was admitted to the Department of Computer of Wuhan University.
After entering the university, Lei Jun began to take a lot of high-grade curriculum. In only two years, Lei Jun completed all credits (Wuhan University was the first batch of the implementation of the credit system of University), and even completed the graduation design of the university.
A "Silicon Valley Fever" changed the destiny of life lei. "I'm still a 18-year-old boy at that time, and I prefer to read books at night. The the story of hero from Silicon Valley inspired me to be a great man." Lei Jun said on public, "Wuhan University is where my dream started."
It is reported that Chen Dongsheng, the chairman and CEO of Taikang Life graduated from School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University in 1983. Since June 2011, He has repeatedly donated nearly 100 million yuan, of which 80 million yuan is in cash, to build the buildings and museum of Wuhan University. According to Lei Jun, the reason why he only donated RMB 99,999,999 yuan is that he should be humble in front of his senior alumni.
"Mr. Lei and I donated 100 million yuan together to Wuhan University, and I will pay the rest of the money.
"
"It's better to do something for education other than some weird organizations in China.
