COVID-19: Updated Chengdu Exit & Entry Rules

When the novel Coronavirus first came to the attention of the World Health Organization on December 31, 2019, and the news about this unknown strain found in Wuhan broke into the news in early January, life in China became a strange rollercoaster of repeated days, and ups and downs.

In order to contain the spread of the respiratory disease, Wuhan went into lockdown and the Chinese New Year holiday was extended as city after city encouraged residents to implement self-quarantine and increase their awareness regarding the new virus.

As we mentioned in our Practical Guide for Living in Chengdu Right Now, measurements and restrictions are tightening up. Most communities in Chengdu now require an access pass to enter/ leave the compound, which you will receive after registration, and housing communities limit access to non-essential personnel. Your waimai shuaige will call you to leave the order at the gate, and kuaidi should be collected from the secure pickup locations (so keep an eye on your text messages).

Several compounds in Chengdu are already implementing strict measure, similar to other cities (Hangzhou, Xi'an, Harbin, etc), restricting each household to only allownig one person leave their community once every two or three days. Most places in Chengdu have slightly more relaxed restrictions in place.

Visa Appointment and Entrusted Services

During the coronavirus epidemic, foreigners may login the official website at http://cdcrj.chengdu.gov.cn or add the PSB’s official WeChat account (QR code below, ID: ChengduCRJ) to your contact list, then proceed by selecting "Appointment for Application" module to make and appointment for visa application.
