Tianfu Health Code Update: NO Clear solution..

If you found your health code not working recently, you're not alone. The Tianfu Health code system had an upgrade, and unfortunately the rule is that there is no clear rule. It appears to be different for almost everyone. 😠

However we have analyzed all the hints and tips that were shared in WeChat groups today and compiled them into a list, in case there's some things you are yet to try.

Step 1: Access the Mini Program

Long press the QR code below

Step 2: Scroll down > click "Declaration entry for foreign nationals, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents"

Step 3: Enter the information

*Personnel Category: Foreigner

*ID Type: Passport

*ID Number: Current ID number

*Name: this is tricky part! ⚠️ The rule is that there is no rule...

Below the examples that used to work for most people, though not the majority. The rule is to be patient and keep trying. Can be CAPS or no caps, with or without spaces in between. Try different options, keep track of them, and keep hitting "Start certification".

Examples or Mr John Peter Beach -> enter as:

1) BEACHJOHNPETER

2) John Peter Beach

3) JOHN PETER BEACH

Step 4: Health Declaration

Enter the requested information: phone number, address (Chinese only), detailed addresss, questionnaire, temperature, etc.

Click "I promise" => Complete

Step 5: Your updated Health Code should appear

Tips from readers if it won't work

-If you haven't registered yet, click here and check the information below.

-Remind to change to "foreigner" in the first step (see above)

-SOME PEOPLE have found that if this didn't work, inserting a space next to either your name (in one of the formats above), or your passport number, before sumbitting worked for them.

- A simple way to think about it is that at some point your name had to be entered into the chinese system. Whether that is at the airport when you go through immigration, when you register with the local police station or when you deal with the PSB this is when the name enters the system. Maybe you have a printed police registration form at home?

Contact Customer Service

We've called their customer service (area code + 12345, then ask to be transferred to the health code department). Except for hearing "this problem is faced by few foreigners" (yea right), they did give us a good tip how to give give feedback via the Tianfu Health App if it doesn't show the Health Code. Open the App, scroll down to the 我要咨询 button with robot symbol, where you can contact them directly. It is recommended to select the option 健康吗获得方式 (suggesting a problem with getting the Health Code), and asking a Chinese friend to help with communication. You will most likely be asked to send over documents like e-version of passport.
