Despite a year of slumping iPhone sales, Apple chose to largely stick to its smartphone playbook with new models announced at a closely watched press event on Tuesday.

Apple (AAPL) unveiled two high-end iPhones -- the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max -- with four-figure price tags, as well as a cheaper iPhone 11. The models replaced the similarly priced iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, respectively.

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max models feature an improved camera system, with three cameras on the back of the phone, and better battery life than previous models. Apple says the iPhone 11 Pro will last four hours longer than the iPhone XS and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will last five hours longer than the iPhone XS Max.

Apple CEO Tim Cook called the Pro models "the most powerful and most advanced iPhones we have ever built, with a stunning design." And the company is asking customers to pay up for them.

The iPhone 11 Pro and and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will start at $999 and $1,099, respectively -- the same as what Apple charged for the previous iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The decision to hold tight to these prices comes as Apple’s iPhone business has experienced double-digit percentage sales declines in each of the last three quarters. The company is contending with consumers taking longer to upgrade and a trade war denting demand in China, once one of its most promising markets.

The new iPhones will be available for pre-order on Friday and go on sale in stores on September 20.

In addition to the new iPhone lineup, Apple unveiled a new seventh generation iPad at the event Tuesday, with a larger 10.2-inch retina display and a price tag starting at $329. The previous model had a 9.7-inch screen.

根据社交媒体上的讨论热度，苹果此次发布会给中国观众带来的最大惊喜之一，是苹果将其A13仿生芯片的CPU和GPU性能与其他旗舰芯片进行比较。

中国本土智能手机制造商华为的麒麟980芯片组出现在对比图上，这使得“苹果史上第一次对比华为”成为微博上的热门话题。

不过它对比的是华为去年的产品，而今年华为要出麒麟990。
