Guangdong imported frozen food
3 samples were positive, but the virus was inactivated

"There is currently no evidence that the new coronavirus can be spread through food. Even if the virus is present in food, it can be killed by cooking." On August 16, at a press conference on Guangdong Province’s epidemic prevention and control work, Guangdong Province’s Director of the Disease Control Center, Deng Huihong, revealed that since June, Guangdong has conducted sampling and testing of imported frozen foods. At present, 145,900 samples have been tested. Except for 3 samples that tested positive, the rest are all negative.

She further pointed out that after the 3 positive samples were further reviewed by the Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, experts believe that the virus has lost its activity and is not capable of infecting people.

In order to further reduce the risk of infection, Deng Huihong advises citizens to wear disposable gloves when buying imported frozen food and try to avoid direct contact with food with their hands.

Secondly, food must be washed carefully before processing, and must be cooked thoroughly.

Third, develop good habits and avoid touching the mouth, eyes and nose with dirty hands during food handling.
