April residents at Red Gate Gallery in 798 art district
Red Gate Residency would like to
introduce our April residents to the
Red Gate friends and supporters
Elmira Abolhassani Iran
Intermedia glass artist
Elmira investigates the surrounding world through identity analysis in which she studies objects that exist in domestic or public interior space – objectsuch as a chair, drawers, carpet, daily use clothes or even some architecture elements like entrance doors or windows. She borrows common compositions such as daily-use objects in her installation, combines them with hand-made glass artworks through which she makes new compositions in order to show and emphasize her discovery. Her ultimate objective of the artistic journey is to achieve a holistic perception of how identities are formed and what their underlying structures are.
Marília Del Vecchio Brazil 巴西
Visual artist
Marília explores the relations her body has with all surrounding matters. She is interested in the intense experience of cultural and societal unfamiliarity and how comprehension falls into pieces at the moment of translation. This time at the residency, she embodies her perspectives in sewed text, glass stones, paper prints of broken glasses and so forth. On one hand, she talks about fragility and heaviness of mundane objects. On the other, Marília uses sewing as a way of amplifying noises that can not be contained in written or spoken words. The rear side of the sewed text, for her, represents the noises one receives from cultural translation.
Marit Wolters Germany 德国
Sculptor
Marit’s work focuses on the concept of preserving vernacular building in China and its significance to the construction of cultural identity. In her sculpture and installation pieces she explores the relations between the formal potential inherent in industrially refined matters: their drive for self-organization that can lead to organic, nature-like objects and their everyday use in architecture, that is, form determined by an imposed geometry.
Tahmine Mirmotahari Iran
Sculptor
Tahmine’s artworks is a subject of how society and environment can affect life in different types. Most of her works might be thought of as an Fractal geometry, three-dimensional montage and appropriations of simplest materials which suggest a wide range of organic association, psychological moods and arrangement in ways that suggest disregarded moments on the world around us.
