From the summer of 1994 I have had many laughs with Liu Ganbu at the gallery openings and the dinners afterwards in Yong An Li where his daughter would run wild with Zhou Jirong’s daughter while we all carried on. Qinghe has been a great supporter of Red Gate all these years and it has been an important honour for me to watch his career develop as an artist, but also as an educator influencing a whole generation of students of Chinese ink painting. His dedication has been borne out by the prominent museum shows over the last 20 years establishing him as one of the most prominent ink painters of his generation.
从1994年夏天开始，我和“刘干部”有过的太多的欢声笑语；有时在画廊的开幕式或是在永安里的晚宴上，他的女儿和周吉荣的女儿一起奔跑打闹，被我们捉住的时候。庆和这些年来一直是红门的大力支持者，能看到他作为艺术家的职业生涯发展，同时作为一名影响了一代中国水墨画学生的教育家，对我来说是一种重要的荣幸。在过去的 20 年里，在众多著名博物馆的展览经历证明了他的杰出贡献，使他成为他那一代最杰出的水墨画家之一。
布朗 Brian Wallace
30年的回望 REVIEW 30 YEARS
應該是上世紀的1994年夏天的一天吧，布朗·华莱士先生约我去中國大饭店聊聊，此前虽然知道一些红门画廊，但是赴约還是有些期待和忐忑。见了面，聊到此前我在中央美院画廊的个展，一片开心的样子。他話不多看上去自信、真诚，也许是因为语言困难让我俩的交流差不多是以笑为主，布朗叫了兩扎啤酒，也没啥可吃的，举杯碰一下就算是合作開始了。
坐落在北京商贸核心地带的中國大饭店，因为有红门画廊的入住加盟，多了一道靓丽风景。就在二楼那条走廊上，不少今天看来成功的“量级”艺术家，最早是在这里亮相的。对于市场模式，布朗可说是较早吃螃蟹的人，他完全靠自己的智慧和努力打开了一片天。红门画廊的逐步发展，也可以说是中国当代艺术“开门见山”的试水，其重要性不言则明。而且，更重要的是布朗以他敏銳的视角和富有洞察力的判断，对尚年轻的中国当代艺术和青年艺术家们给予了重要的支持。30年过去了，中国当代艺术如过山车一样地经历了高亢和低迷，布朗是经历了这一切的曲折、演进，却一直是带着笑意、善意，执着地看好中国当代艺术，提携支持了几代艺术家。
我和红门画廊一起走过了“中国大饭店-东便门角楼-798艺术区”长达30年的历程。1995年以后，几乎每年一次在红门画廊的个展，对我来说如同是走在上行的台阶上视野拓展，也如同在我面前打开了一扇窗，让我秉持传统水墨表达亦与當代藝術产生了关联的思考。作为一个以当代水墨表达现实生活的倡导者和实践者，我参与见证了当代艺术从起步到今天的中国特色的艺术与现实。红门画廊这个京城“老字号”，在当代艺术领域维系了众多的人脉和良好的声誉，布朗以他个人的魅力和真挚，以及几十年不懈的努力，赢得了艺术家的信任和托付。红门画廊为中国当代艺术助力，布朗先生可以说是当代艺术发展真正的推手。

刘庆和写在红门画廊成立30周年庆典之际
It was the summer of 1994 when Brian invited me for a talk at the China World Hotel. Although I knew about Red Gate, I was still quite nervous and excited. We talked about my personal exhibition at CAFA. He was confident, sincere and speechless. Laughing dominated part of the conversation due to the gap between languages. He ordered two glass of beer and nothing to eat. Our cooperation began after the toast.
The China World Hotel, located in the heart of Beijing’s commerce and trade, has an additional attraction because of the presence of the Red Gate Gallery. On the mezzanine level above the lobby, many of today's well known artists first appeared here. Regarding the market model, Brian was the ever first “crab-eater”. The gradual development of Red Gate Gallery is Brian's success, and a litmus test about Chinese contemporary art. It has no need to prove its importance. More, with his perspective and insightful judgment, Brian gave courage and important support to Chinese contemporary art and young artists. Thirty years have passed. The contemporary art has gone through twists and turns like a roller coaster. Brian has experienced all of this, but he has always been smiling and persistently optimistic about Chinese contemporary art, supporting several generations of artists.
After experiencing the China World Hotel - Dongbianmen Watchtower - 798 Art District, I have had a solo exhibition at Red Gate Gallery almost every year since 1995. For me, these are like climbing high and looking into the distance; it is also like opening a window in front of me, allowing me to uphold the traditional ink and wash expression, as well as contemporary art. As an advocate and practitioner of contemporary ink and wash expression, I have witnessed Chinese contemporary art from its inception to the realization of the art with its own characteristics in China. Red Gate Gallery, the “time-honored brand” in the capital, has maintained many contacts and a good reputation in the field of contemporary art; Brian has won the trust of artists with his charm, sincerity and decades of unremitting efforts. Red Gate Gallery has contributed much to Chinese contemporary art - Brian is the real supporter of contemporary art.
