Preface
Text/Yiran Rachel Wang
This series of works presents a moment of non-existence, or perhaps the non-existence of a moment. The seemingly chaotic traces traverse the boundaries of space and time. Regardless of the cultural and social benchmarks, the world runs on the promise of life that the mountains, rivers and earth have to offer. This cycle in nature goes on and on, and it never ends.
"Everything is made according to the desire of the heart", the most authentic reality is not what we see, but the relationship between what we see and our innate reactions to it. I hope you can truly perceive whatever captures your eyes or just simply enjoy a moment of peace while visiting this series.
Text/Teng Qinyun
A heavy sense of bass is the first impression that Wang Yiran's works deliver.
Since 2018, Wang Yiran has been solo traveling among various mountains and forests in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Zhejiang, carefully photographing what she sees in front of her: caves with shimmering light, temple doors that are silent and welcoming, waves of light between poetic mountains and rivers, quiet and symmetrical factories, and dust gushing upwards...... These images, which seem to have no narrative logic, are grand and subtle human traces and natural landscapes when they stand by themselves, and when they weave together, the traces of human-nature interaction from the Middle Ages to the industrial age are presented in front of us. Like a rhythm, the bass goes on and on.
This series of works by Wang Yiran, created at a time when technology and society are developing at a rapid pace and human beings are living in cities and towns far away from nature, retreat to the mountains and rivers, tracing the interaction between man and nature, hoping to revive the vitality bestowed by nature, reconnecting the past and the present within those traces, and finally getting ready for the advent of future.
In this exhibition, 14 pieces of work are placed in a dark space to present the bass of history looming under the mountains and rivers untouched by human deeds.
