The venue, Chow Tai Fook (CTF) Financial Center, located in Guangzhou's CBD Zhujiang New Town, is the tallest building in the city.

Competitors were divided into three groups: elite, individual, and mixed doubles. They need to sprint up to a 109-storey building with 3,160 stairs in a short time.

Liu Zhisen finally led the pack with a time of 17 minutes and 33 seconds, meaning the man climbed one floor roughly every 9.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Luo Lihua and He Xiangshou paired off to win the first in mixed doubles with a time of 23 minutes and 29 seconds.

The first recorded known vertical marathon took place in 1905 as racers scaled France's Eiffel Tower. Also known as tower running, the sport currently has gained popularity in South China. It can not only break through the exercise limitations of time and space but also spread the concept of low-carbon life to people.
